Seishin Ju-Jitsu was founded in October 2015 by Renshi John Michell 5th Degree Black Belt and his long term partner and senior student Carla Joaquim.
Renshi John Michell started his Ju-Jitsu training back in the 1990's with what was then Meadway Ju-Jitsu (now Total Self Defence), under the tuition and expert instruction of Professor James McDade and his son Professor Steve McDade.
Obtaining his Black Belt in 2002, he became a senior instructor at Total Self Defence for the next 12 years, honing his skills and assisting other TSD instructors in the running of their clubs.
In 2014 Renshi John Michell left TSD to support a dying friend and fellow instructor Master Peter Maxey, in his final wish to set up his own club, thus helping run the classes at the newly created but short lived Phoenix Ju-Jitsu, in Muswell Hill. Phoenix ran for nearly 2 years, but with the passing of his friend and founding member, the club was sadly but respectfully put to rest.
Although Phoenix Ju-Jitsu had closed, Renshi John Michell did not feel ready to give up on his training and his passion for teaching the art he had spent so many years practicing, and so, with Carla's help, and with the staunch support of his students and friends, Seishin Ju-Jitsu was born!
